Finalist for New Australasian Mediator of the Year, 2017 Australasian Law Awards

The annual Australasian Law Awards celebrates excellence in the legal profession.

The Australasian Law Awards brings together 600 industry leaders to celebrate excellence in the legal profession.

Across 34 categories, the event recognises leading firms, in-house legal teams and others in the profession for their outstanding achievements over the past 12 months. I am delighted to be selected as a Finalist for New Australasian Mediator of the Year, 2017 Australasian Law Awards.

I am a dispute resolution specialist focusing on the psychology of parental communication and conflict, and its impact on child development outcomes. I also practice as a mediator, family dispute resolution practitioner (FDRP), communication and family professional in the collaborative law process, a parenting co-ordinator and as an international speaker and trainer.

Mediation is a way of resolving disputes between two or more parties with concrete effects. The mediator assists the parties to negotiate a settlement. Disputants may mediate disputes in a variety of domains, such as commercial, legal, workplace, community and family matters.

The advantages of mediating a dispute are:

  • Reducing legal costs by settling a matter early.
  • A better ongoing relationship between parties. This is particularly important where parties have an ongoing relationship whether because of related business, workplace or commercial interests, or community and social networks.
  • The matter is dealt with privately and not court
  • The costs are significantly less than legal fees and litigation
  • Mediation can occur at any time without the parties having to endure the long wait lists often associated with court dates.

I am honoured to receive this nomination. The winners of the Australasian Law Awards 2017 will be announced at the awards ceremony on Thursday 18 May 2017 at The Star Sydney.
